Venus Boys was very enlightening. Before watching the Venus Boys I never even thought about drag kings. I was totally oblivious that women partake in these drag activities. The women who are drag kings put on makeup to create facial hair like beards and mustaches, shave their head or put on a wig to look masculine, and wear man clothing like button down shirts, blazers, and especially pants. The drag kings believed that wearing pants was a sign or way of showing power. They interpreted that pants equal power, and thats interesting because they said that guys normally wear pants and once the pants are on them they feel like they are in command. With males being the dominant group in society, the drag kings dress like men to feel a temporary advantage over others. By saying this it questions the fact since men are already known as dominant then why do the males who participate in being drag queens do it. They are portraying themselves as women who are inferior. So being a drag king is a way for women to escape reality and release their inner man

Most Girls No Longer Have a Village

I like this statement not only because it is interesting, but that it is also true. When I think of a "village" I think of a close related community living together and supporting one another. If not a community, then a small group of positive people infuencing you to do well and excell. But if you do not have the support coming from your "village" then you may not be traveling down the right path. It is very important, for a young girl and teenager, to have that "village" because the people from that village are older and have more wisdom to pass down, making you a smarter and better person. If that passed down wisdom is taken in, then you probably wouldn't have to go through some of the struggles that the elders went through. I do believe that the "village" should be older people, because if younger people were the leaders of the "village" then who would they be influenced by? The media, which sends out wrong messages to the people. As we watched "Toe to Toe" I believe that most wealthy families have these problems and deal with the issues that come from having "no village." If most girls do have "villages" then there would be less family difficulties.
